Jocelyn Bioh, Tony Award-nominated for her Main Stem playwriting debut with “Jaja’s African Hair Braiding,” appeared on Good Morning America to discuss the play and its impact on audiences.

“Jaja’s African Hair Braiding” pulls back the curtain on the lives, hopes and dreams of the community found among the employees and clientele of a Harlem hair braiding salon. The Manhattan Theatre Club-produced play opened on Oct. 3, 2023 at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre. The production completed its twice-extended limited run on Nov. 19. “Jaja”’s received five 2024 Tony nominations, including a nod for Best Play. Additionally, hair and wig designer Nikiya Mathis will receive a special Tony for her work designing the production’s hair and wigs.
