The Stage Directors and Choreographers Society has elected a new vice president and a new secretary.

The union, which has an active membership of 3,000 stage directors and choreographers in the U.S., announced the election of Michael John Garcés as vice president and Evan Yionoulis as secretary of SDC. The two positions, as well as those of four new board members, were decided at SDC’s annual membership meeting Monday.

Garcés is the artistic director of Cornerstone Theater Company in Los Angeles, as well as a playwright, with works including “ Los Illegals” and “Points of Departure.”

Yionoulis is a professor of acting and directing at Yale University and resident director of the Yale Repertory Theatre. She is an Obie Award-winner for her direction of “Three Days of Rain” at Manhattan Theatre Club.

The board also elected Desdemona Chiang, Joseph Haj and Lonny Price as at-large board members and Melia Besussen as the Northeast regional representative.

Robert Moss, the founding artistic director of Playwrights Horizons, received the President’s Award for service to the union at the meeting Monday. He has been a board member since 2011.
