Jaquel Spivey to star in ‘A Strange Loop’ on Broadway

Jaquel Spivey will make his Broadway debut as Usher in “A Strange Loop” this spring.  Spivey comes to Broadway after playing Usher in the show’s recent engagement at Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company. He joins original cast members Antwayn Hopper, L Morgan Lee, John-Michael Lyles, James Jackson, Jr.

Jaquel Spivey will make his Broadway debut as Usher in “A Strange Loop” this spring.

Spivey comes to Broadway after playing Usher in the show’s recent engagement at Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company. He joins original cast members Antwayn Hopper, L Morgan Lee, John-Michael Lyles, James Jackson, Jr., John-Andrew Morrison and Jason Veasey, all of whom performed in the Woolly Mammoth production and the musical’s world premiere at Playwrights Horizons.

“A Strange Loop” will begin performances at the Lyceum Theatre on April 6, ahead of an opening night on April 26.

Michael R. Jackson wrote the book, music and lyrics to “A Strange Loop” and won the 2020 Pulitzer Prize for Drama for his work.

“A Strange Loop” is produced by Barbara Whitman, Page 73 Productions, Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company and Playwrights Horizons.

The production is directed by Stephen Brackett and choreographed by Raja Feather Kelly. Set design is by Arnulfo Maldonado, with costumes by Montana Levi Blanco, lighting design by Jen Schriever and sound design by Drew Levy.
