How ‘Gutenberg!’ stars Josh Gad and Andrew Rannells first met

The origin story of the duo that’s been declared a “perfect comedic balance.”

In “Gutenberg! The Musical!,” stars Josh Gad and Andrew Rannells earned raves as a winning comedic pair. Since the announcement of the production, much has been made about the reunion of the two actors, who rose to fame when they were each nominated for Tony Awards for side-by-side turns in 2011’s “The Book of Mormon” — but have not been onstage together since.

That irreverent musical satire about Mormons by the creators of “South Park” wasn’t just Gad and Rannells’ introduction to the spotlight. As the two shared at Variety’s recent Business of Broadway breakfast, it was also their introduction to each other.
