‘Broadway Bets’ breaks fundraising record

The annual Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS event took place May 22.

The 2023 edition of Broadway’s official poker tournament “Broadway Bets” raised a record $332,465 for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. The evening of Texas Hold ’em poker took place at Sardi’s restaurant. This was the first “Broadway Bets” since 2019 due to a pandemic-induced hiatus.

Actors Robert Creighton, Christopher Innvar, Ramin Karimloo, Mike Myers, Anthony Rapp, Jarrod Spector and Aaron Tveit all competed in the night of cards.

Since the first event in 2015, “Broadway Bets” has raised over $1.5 million for Broadway Cares. Paul Libin, former executive vice president of Jujamcyn Theaters, and Robert Wankel, chairman and CEO of the Shubert Organization, are founding co-chairs.

The 2023 tournament was directed by Mark Shacket, partner at general management firm Foresight Theatrical, Brett Sirota, co-founder and partner at the Road Company and Alex Wolfe, associate general manager at Foresight.

“Broadway Bets” was sponsored by City National Bank, United Airlines, bar sponsor “Some Like It Hot” and benefactors Peg and Gary Wendlandt and in memory of Scott Barnes.

“Full House” table sponsors were Foresight Theatrical, AKA, The Araca Group, The John Gore Organization, Jujamcyn Theaters, The Nederlander Organization, The Pekoe Group, PRG, The Road Company, Serino Coyne, The Shubert Organization, The Sign in Sidney Brustein’s Window, Situation, SpotCo and Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP. “Two Pair” half-table sponsors were BROADWai, Chart Chart Graph (Brian DeVito), Crossroads Live, EBG, The New York Times, RoadCo Entertainment and Sony Music Masterworks.
