Oftentimes, when a book is adapted into a stage musical it’s because someone — a producer, director or writer — read that piece of literature and felt it sing. With “The Outsiders,” producers from the Araca Group wanted to find the artists who could make S.E. Hinton’s classic sing.

As producers and marketers, the Araca Group boasts more than a dozen Broadway credits — from the original musical “Urinetown” to the musical adaptation of “The Wedding Singer” to the finance drama “Junk.”

Here, Matthew Rego and Hank Unger of the Araca Group describe assembling the team for “The Outsiders,” who their target audience is, how they plan to reach them and their thoughts on how to use video in their messaging.
