Manhattan Theatre Club (MTC) has a storied history of producing quality work, as evidenced by the nonprofit company’s record of Tony Award nominations. This year, MTC has reached a milestone: 30 nominations for Best Play, Best Revival of a Play or Best Musical.

The organization reached this marker when all three of the shows they produced during the 2023-2024 Broadway season (“Jaja’s African Hair Braiding,” “Prayer for the French Republic” and “Mary Jane,” in order of opening) earned nods for Best Play.

At the same time that MTC has shown its dedication to quality, the nonprofit has also demonstrated its commitment to cultivating new and diverse audiences through education, outreach and post-show programming.

Here, artistic director Lynne Meadow and executive director Chris Jennings discuss assembling a winning season, attracting (and retaining) audiences and ideating for next season.
