Will Swenson will take on the title role in the out-of-town tryout of “A Beautiful Noise: The Neil Diamond Musical,” producers Ken Davenport and Bob Gaudio announced Friday.
The new musical, which recounts Neil Diamond’s life and career, is scheduled for a six-week engagement at Boston’s Emerson Colonial Theatre this summer. The musical is aiming for an eventual Broadway run.
“A Beautiful Noise” features a score of Diamond’s own catalog and a book by Anthony McCarten. Michael Mayer directs the production, which features choreography by Steven Hoggett.
Swenson has appeared on Broadway in “Hair,” “Les Misérables” and “Waitress,” among other productions. He recently portrayed Charles Guiteau in Classic Stage Company’s Off-Broadway production of “Assassins.”
The Emerson Colonial Theatre has in recent years hosted the pre-Broadway runs of “American Utopia,” “Plaza Suite” and “Moulin Rouge!”
