A musical version of “Tootsie” will have its world premiere in Chicago this fall before coming to Broadway next spring.

Produced by Scott Sanders Productions, the Chicago premiere will star Santino Fontana as Michael Dorsey/Dorothy Michaels. The show will be directed by Scott Ellis and will feature an original score from David Yazbek.

Santino comes to the role after appearing on “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” and on Broadway in “Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella” and “Billy Elliot,” among others.

The show features a book by Robert Horn, choreography by Denis Jones and musical direction by Andrea Grody.

David Rockwell is the scenic designer, William Ivey Long is the costume designer, Donald Holder is the lighting designer and Brian Ronan is the sound designer.

The musical plans to come to Broadway in spring 2019, but the press release does not specify dates or a theater.

James Nederlander and Sally Horchow International Productions are co-producers on the production.

More casting and creative team announcements will be made at a later date, according to the press release.
