A 54-year-old stagehand died Thursday after falling from a platform above the stage at the Winter Garden Theatre.

Police responded to a call at 8:48 a.m. Thursday and found a man lying on the floor on the Winter Garden with “injuries consistent with a fall from an elevated height.” The man was later pronounced dead at Mount Sinai Hospital.

The man’s identity has not yet been released, as police are waiting to inform members of his family. Investigation into the incident is ongoing, but no criminal activity is suspected.

The theater was previously home to “Beetlejuice,” but has recently been undergoing work in preparation for the revival of “The Music Man.”

The Shubert Organization, which owns the theater, confirmed the fall from the fly floor and said that the Occupational Safety and Health Administration also responded to the scene.

“We mourn the loss of our valued colleague. Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family during this difficult time,” the Shubert Organization said in a statement.

IATSE did not immediately responded to a request for comment.
