‘SpongeBob’ wins big at Drama Desk Awards

“SpongeBob SquarePants” won the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Musical Sunday night, with its director Tina Landau, star Ethan Slater and supporting actor Gavin Lee also taking home awards.

“SpongeBob SquarePants” won the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Musical Sunday night, with its director Tina Landau, star Ethan Slater and supporting actor Gavin Lee also taking home awards.

The winners of the Drama Desk Awards, which cover Broadway, Off Broadway and Off-Off Broadway shows in the same category, were announced Sunday night at The Town Hall, where Michael Urie hosted.

Among the other winners, “My Fair Lady” won for Outstanding Revival of a Musical, while Nathan Lane and Andrew Garfield each took home awards for “Angels in America” and Lindsay Mendez and Jessie Mueller won for their respective roles in “Carousel.”
