A Times Square costume exhibit designed to raise money for costume makers affected by the pandemic has temporarily closed due to flooding.

The “Showstoppers! Spectacular Costumes From Stage and Screen” exhibit, located at 234 West 42nd Street, features 135 costumes created by members of the Costume Industry Coalition, which includes more than 50 independent costume businesses. Four costumes were impacted by the flooding, which a spokesperson said appears to have come from the nearby Applebee’s, and organizers plan to have those costumes restored.

The exhibit has a planned reopening next week. “Showstoppers!”is scheduled to run through October 31, 2021.

“In true 2021 fashion, we’re now dealing with a massive leak in the space, temporarily closing a project whose only goal was to raise money for an industry already hard hit by the pandemic,” said Brian Blythe, founding member of the Costume Industry Coalition. “Luckily, most of the costumes were spared, and we’re lucky enough to have the expertise of Winzer Cleaners, CIC member and Dry Cleaner to Broadway.”

The exhibit includes displays of costumes from Broadway and Off Broadway productions as well as national tours, including “Chicago,” “Come From Away,” “Dear Evan Hansen,” “Frozen,” “Hamilton,” “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child,” “The Lion King,” “Moulin Rouge! The Musical,” “Six” and more.
