Fontana will join the cast starting March 13 and will be there “for a limited time,” according to the press release.

“Santino’s an amazing performer,” Creel said in the press release. “He’ll be absolutely wonderful in the part.”

Creel won a Tony Award for Best Supporting Actor in a role for his turn as Hackl.

Now helmed by Bernadette Peters, “Hello, Dolly!” is playing at the Shubert Theatre. It opened April 17, 2017 with Creel as part of the original cast.

Fontana was recently announced as the star of new musical “Tootsie,” which will play in Chicago this fall with plans to come to Broadway in spring 2019.
