New Dramatists has selected Nathan Lane as the recipient of its 2019 Distinguished Achievement Award.

The annual award, which will be presented at its 70th Annual Luncheon in May, is given to individuals “who have made an outstanding artistic contribution” to the theater community. Past recipients include Denzel Washington, Daryl Roth and Paula Vogel, Audra McDonald, Brian Stokes Mitchell and more.

“Nathan Lane has built a career that is, by all standards, one of the great actor success stories in our industry,” Emily Morse, artistic director of New Dramatists, an organization dedicated to supporting emerging playwrights, said in the press release. “His memorable performances on stage and screen are rooted in story-telling while demonstrating a dazzling sense of showmanship. He’s a giant; a true man of the theatre, and we are thrilled to celebrate his tremendous talent and achievements in a year when he’s also performing in a new play by one of our venerable and beloved alumni.”

The luncheon, featuring tributes to Lane, will take place Tues., May 14 at the New York Marriott Marquis.

Lane is set to return to Broadway this spring in “Gary: A Sequel to Titus Andronicus.” A three-time Tony Award winner, he has appeared in more 20 Broadway productions including “Angels in America,” ‘The Front Page,” “The Producers,” “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum” and “Guys and Dolls,” as well as numerous productions off-Broadway and on the West End.
