The cast is set for the first Broadway production of “The Fantasticks,” directed and choreographed by Tony winner Christopher Gattelli. The musical will star Tony nominee Leslie Rodriguez Kritzer as Matt’s Mother, Maxim Chlumecky as Matt, Nathan Levy as Lewis and Tony winner Ruthie Ann Miles as Lewis’ Mother. Performances begin on October 22 at the Helen Hayes Theater with opening night scheduled for November 16.

The cast will also feature Tony nominee Kevin del Aguila as Mortimer, David Patrick Kelly as Henry, Zane Phillips as El Gallo and Ahmad Simmons as The Mute.
The original production of “The Fantasticks” ran for 42 years off-Broadway — from 1960 to 2002, but it’s never been on Broadway until now. With a book and lyrics by Tom Jones and music by Harvey Schmidt, this reinterpretation celebrates love, reconciliation and the singular power of theater. The story, reconceived by Jones himself, follows two boys and their two mothers who devise a mischievous plan to make the young men fall in love.
Kritzer is a Tony nominee for her performance in “Spamalot” and has also appeared on Broadway in “Beetlejuice,” “Something Rotten!” and “Elf.” Chlumecky’s Broadway credits include “Appropriate” and “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.” Levy’s Broadway credits include “& Juliet” and “Aladdin.” Miles is a Tony winner for “The King and I” and recently appeared on Broadway in “McNeal,” “Sweeney Todd” and “Sunday in the Park with George.” del Agulia is a Tony nominee for “Some Like It Hot,” with other Broadway credits including “Frozen,” “Peter and the Starcatcher,” “Yellow Face” and “Rocky.” Kelly’s many Broadway credits include “Once,” “Into the Woods,” “Once Upon a Mattress” and “An Enemy of the People.” Phillips is making his Broadway debut in “The Fantasticks.” Simmons’ Broadway credits include “Illinoise,” “West Side Story,” “Hadestown,” “Carousel” and “Cats.”
As previously announced, the production will feature scenic design by Jason Sherwood, costume design by Linda Cho, lighting design by Jen Schriever and sound design by Nevin Steinberg. Music supervision and orchestrations are by Sam Davis, with music direction by Rick Hip-Flores.
