“Kinky Boots” is adding another new cast member, as David Cook is slated to take over the role of “Charlie Price” in April.

Cook, a former “American Idol” winner, will make his Broadway debut in the role on April 3, 2018, taking over from Jake Shears, lead singer of the band Scissor Sisters, who also made his Broadway debut in “Kinky Boots.” The show announced Monday that Wayne Brady will return to the other leading role of “Lola” from March 5 to April 26.

Cook has a limited run in the show until May 5.

In addition to the pair, Kirstin Maldonado, a member of the acapella group Pentatonix who is currently playing “Lauren,” will stay in the show through April 26, rather than her previous end date of April 8.

Brady takes over from J. Harrison Ghee, who will be temporarily leaving to work on another project, according to the press release.

The musical opened at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre on April 4, 2013 and announced it recouped its $13.5 million capitalization within 30 weeks of opening. However, the show brought in $589,711 last week, the lowest gross in its history, in the midst of Broadway’s winter slump.

In addition to the Broadway musical, “Kinky Boots” is playing on the West End and has a North American tour, which is now in its fourth year, as well as productions in Korea and Japan.
