Katharine McPhee will take over the lead role of Jenna in “Waitress” on April 10.

This will be the Broadway debut for McPhee, who starred in the TV show “Smash” and appeared on “American Idol.” She will take over the role from the show’s songwriter, Sara Bareilles, and appear in the show through June 17.

Bareilles returned to the role for a second time this winter and will be in the show until March 11.

The announcement did not specify who will take over the role between McPhee and Bareilles.

The show, which is produced by Barry and Fran Weissler, opened on April 24, 2016 at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre.
