The 2019 Tony Award-winning Best Musical “Hadestown” has become the 31st longest-running show on Broadway. As of July 6, 2026, “Hadestown” has played 2,380 performances at the Walter Kerr Theatre. It surpassed the 1998 revival of “Cabaret” and the original production of  “Annie,” which both played 2,377 and previously tied for 31st place. According to press representatives for the production, “Hadestown” is also the longest-running production at the Kerr. The musical celebrated the milestone with a special video on its official Instagram.

With 2,380 performances, “Hadestown” comes in just behind the 30th-longest-running show of all time: “Beautiful: The Carole King Musical.” “Beautiful” clocked 2,416 performances in its nearly six-year run at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre.

“Hadestown” is currently in its seventh year at the Kerr, where it opened on April 17, 2019. The musical began in 2006 as an independent theater project touring around creator Anaïs Mitchell’s native Vermont. Mitchell later recorded a concept album version, which was followed by an Off-Broadway production with New York Theatre Workshop. The musical played Canada and the U.K. before landing on Broadway.

A live capture of “Hadestown,” filmed in London and featuring the original Broadway principal cast, premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival this summer, shortly after the original cast album was certified Gold.

“Hadestown” is produced on Broadway by Mara Isaacs, Dale Franzen, Hunter Arnold and Tom Kirdahy.
