An industry reading of the original musical “Love, Lies & What Could Be” will be held in New York City on Sept. 8, Broadway News has learned exclusively. The reading will be produced by Deaf West Theatre and helmed by Tony Award-nominated director Jeff Calhoun.

“Love, Lies & What Could Be” features a book by Ivan Menchell, music and lyrics by Caroline Kay and music direction and vocal arrangements by Rick Hip-Flores.

The reading will include a company of Deaf and hearing actors, led by Daniel N. Durant, who starred in the Tony-nominated revival of “Spring Awakening” (also produced by Deaf West) and was featured in the cast of the Oscar-winning film “CODA.” Durant will play David, the inventor of a new technology that could change the way that humans communicate.
