“Appropriate” will welcome a new star upon its upcoming commercial transfer. Ella Beatty will take over the role of River in the production when the play moves from the nonprofit Second Stage’s Hayes Theatre to the Belasco next month.

As previously announced, performances at the larger venue will begin on March 25 and continue for a limited run through June 23. Beatty will replace original cast member Elle Fanning, who will not be moving with the production due to prior commitments.

Beatty is perhaps most known for her turn as Kerry O’Shea on the Ryan Murphy-produced FX series “Feud: Capote vs. The Swans.” A Juilliard-trained actor, Beatty will also appear in the upcoming A24 film “If I Had Legs I’d Kick You.” “Appropriate” will mark her first appearance on Broadway.

Beatty will join an “Appropriate” company led by fellow-Ryan Murphy series alum Sarah Paulson, along with Corey Stoll, Michael Esper, Natalie Gold, Graham Campbell, Alyssa Emily Marvin, Lincoln Cohen and Everett Sobers. Casting is by Jim Carnahan Casting.

Written by Branden Jacobs-Jenkins and directed by Lila Neugebauer, “Appropriate” began previews at the Hayes Theatre on Nov. 29, 2023, and opened on Dec. 18. The final performance at the Hayes will be on March 3.

The transfer of “Appropriate” to the Belasco is being produced by Ambassador Theatre Group, Amanda Dubois, Annapurna Theatre, Bad Robot Live, Runyonland, Kristin Caskey, Mike Isaacson and Bee Carrozzini, in association with Second Stage Theater.
