Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders (DCC) director Kelli Finglass will appear in Broadway’s “Chicago” for one night on Oct. 3. Finglass will deliver the show’s opening monologue, traditionally performed by the actor playing the Master of Ceremonies, during the 8 p.m. performance.
Finglass came to national prominence as the director of the NFL cheerleading squad through the DCC docuseries “America’s Sweethearts.” Finglass’s Oct. 3 appearance in “Chicago” falls during the run of DCC alum Reece Weaver, who made her Broadway debut as Roxie Hart on Sept. 7. Weaver recently announced an extension of her “Chicago” run, and is set to remain with the show through Nov. 1.
Finglass first joined DCC during the 1980s before being appointed director at age 27. She has since expanded the team’s visibility through a variety of programs, including expanded halftime shows, an annual DCC Christmas Extravaganza and a touring live stage show. She has also appeared in the television series “Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders: Making the Team” in addition to “America’s Sweethearts.”
Having opened at the Richard Rodgers Theatre on Nov. 14, 1996, the Tony Award-winning revival of “Chicago” is Broadway’s second-longest-running musical, with 11,768 performances as of Sept. 20. The production transferred to the Ambassador Theatre in 2003, where it continues to play. Alongside Weaver, the musical’s current cast features Lissa deGuzman as Velma Kelly, Max von Essen as Billy Flynn and NaTasha Yvette Williams as Matron “Mama” Morton. “Chicago” is produced on Broadway by Barry and Fran Weissler.
