Casting directors of ‘Merrily,’ ‘Leopoldstadt’ and ‘Into the Woods’ win 2024 Artios Awards

The Casting Society’s 39th awards ceremony was held on March 7.

Casting directors from a trio of Broadway productions were named winners of the Casting Society’s Artios Awards on March 7, at ceremonies held in New York, Los Angeles and London. The New York ceremony was hosted by Alex Edelman at the Edison Ballroom; Niecy Nash-Betts emceed the Los Angeles ceremony at the Beverly Hilton; and the London ceremony was led by Samantha Morton at the White City House. The Artios Awards honor casting professionals across theater, television, film and commercials.

Broadway winners included Jim Carnahan and Jason Thinger for their casting of the current “Merrily We Roll Along” revival. Carnahan and Maureen Kelleher were also honored for casting the 2023 Tony Award-winning Best Play “Leopoldstadt.” And Craig Burns, Geoff Josselson and Bernard Telsey won an Artios Award for casting the 2023 Tony-nominated revival of “Into the Woods.”

Also of note on the theater front is a special honor, the Marion Dougherty New York Apple Award, which was presented to the Drama Book Shop. The annual recognition is to individuals or organizations that have made a special commitment to the New York entertainment industry through their collaboration with casting professionals.
