Ana Gasteyer will play her final performance as Mildred Layton in “Schmigadoon!” on Sept. 6. Gasteyer originated the role of the self-righteous mayor’s wife, for which she was nominated for a Tony Award. Replacement casting will be announced at a later date.
Gasteyer, a former “Saturday Night Live” cast member, made her Main Stem debut in 2001 as a replacement for Columbia in the 2000 revival of “The Rocky Horror Show.” She took over the role of Elphaba in “Wicked” on Broadway in 2006. Among her other Main Stem credits, Gasteyer played Queen Agravain in the 2024 revival of “Once Upon a Mattress.”
Following her final bow in “Schmigadoon!,” Gasteyer will star as her alter ego, September L. Davis, in “The Apology Tour,” which is set for a nine-show run at Studio Seaview on Sundays and Mondays beginning on Sept. 20.
“Schmigadoon!,” based on the Apple TV+ series of the same name, opened at Broadway’s Nederlander Theatre on April 20. It stars Alex Brightman and Sara Chase as Josh Skinner and Melissa Gimble, respectively, a couple whose relationship is on the rocks when they stumble into a living parody of a Golden Age musical.
The comedy was nominated for 12 Tony Awards, winning four, including Best Musical. “Schmigadoon!” is set to embark on a North American tour beginning in September 2027.
