The album, based on the “Bridgerton” Netflix show, was written by Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear and featured collaboration and input from users on the social media app. It beat out other nominees including “Girl from the North Country,” the sole Broadway nominee in the category, as well as Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Cinderella,” which is currently playing in the West End.

The other nominated albums in the category were Burt Bacharach and Steven Sater’s “Some Lovers,” a concept album of the new musical; “Les Misérables: The Staged Concert,” recorded at London’s Sondheim Theatre in 2020; and Stephen Schwartz’s “Snapshots,” a new musical created from Schwartz’s well-known songs.

The eligibility period for the 2022 Grammy Awards ran from Sept. 1, 2020 through Sept. 30, 2021.
