‘The Boys in the Band’ to be considered a revival for Tony Awards

“The Boys in the Band” will be considered a revival of a play for this year’s Tony Awards.

The Tony Awards Administration Committee met Thursday for the first time this season and discussed “The Boys in the Band,” which received the revival consideration despite appearing on Broadway for the first time this season, “Straight White Men,” “Head Over Heels,” “Gettin’ The Band Back Together,” “Pretty Woman: The Musical,” “Bernhardt/Hamlet” and “The Nap.” The committee will meet four times this season.

For his performance in “The Boys in the Band,” which previously had two previous off-Broadway runs, Jim Parsons will be considered eligible in the Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Play category.

Other determinations included:

For their work on “Head Over Heels,” Julian Crouch and Andrew Lazarow will be considered jointly eligible in the category of Best Scenic Design of a Musical.

Mitchell Jarvis will be considered eligible in the Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical category for his role “Gettin’ The Band Back Together.”

Samantha Barks and Andy Karl will be eligible in the Best Performance by an Actress/Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical categories for their respective performances in “Pretty Woman: The Musical.”

For their roles in“Berndardt/Hamlet,” Dylan Baker and Jason Butler Harner will each be eligible in the Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Play category.
