“Stranger Things: The First Shadow” has closed its doors for one week. With its original cast soon to depart, the show’s publicists have confirmed that the play is being filmed for streaming on Netflix, home of the “Stranger Things” TV series. Performances with a live audience have paused from Feb. 10 to Feb. 14 to accommodate the filming. The Broadway show will resume performances on Feb. 15.
“The First Shadow” opened on March 28, 2025 and was nominated for five competitive Tony Awards, winning three. The production also received an additional Tony Award for its special effects.
Written as a prequel to the TV series by Kate Trefry—from a story by Trefry, the Duffer Brothers and Jack Thorne—the play follows the teenage years of future villain Henry Creel and some of the adults in the series. The final season of “Stranger Things,” which was released in late 2025, included events and settings depicted in the play.
Information about when the play will air on Netflix is still to come.
“Stranger Things: The First Shadow” is produced by Sonia Friedman Productions and Netflix.
