Roundabout Theatre Company has announced its lineup for the 2026-2027 season on and Off-Broadway. This will be the first season helmed by Roundabout’s incoming artistic director Christopher Ashley, who collaborated on the season with interim artistic director Scott Ellis.

“As we welcome Christopher Ashley into artistic leadership, this season is a bridge, grounded in what Todd built, and intentionally making space for Chris to shape what’s next,” said Ellis in a statement, referencing Roundabout’s late artistic director Todd Haimes, for whom Roundabout renamed its recently reopened theater.

“The season Scott and I have shaped builds on what Roundabout has always believed: that theater can hold the classic and the urgent side by side,” Ashley added. “We’re proud to have new work anchoring our season, even as we revisit a landmark comedy with fresh eyes and make room for a big, unabashedly entertaining musical.”

Roundabout will kick off the season with Molière’s “The Imaginary Invalid,” featuring a new adaptation by Bill Irwin, who will also star. The revival is set to open at the Haimes in fall 2026. The comedy centers on hypochondriac Argan and his efforts to marry his independently minded daughter off to a doctor to save on his medical bills. Irwin, who won the Tony Award for his turn in the 2005 revival of “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf,” will be directed by Brandon J. Dirden.

In winter 2027, MacArthur Fellow Dominique Morisseau’s new play “Mix and Master” will open at the Haimes. Featuring live DJ sets, the play follows a struggling record shop in the Bronx. “Mix and Master” will be directed by Kamilah Forbes and star Tony winners Ruben Santiago-Hudson and Kara Young.

In spring 2027, the Haimes will see a revival of the musical “The Full Monty.” An Americanized adaptation of the British film of the same name, the comedy centers on a group of unemployed steelworkers who put on a striptease act in order to raise money for child support payments. “Monty” features a book by four-time Tony winner and Lifetime Achievement honoree Terrence McNally, with music and lyrics by David Yazbek, who won the Tony for his score to “The Band’s Visit” in 2018. This production will be directed by Tony nominee Leigh Silverman with choreography by Connor Gallagher of Broadway’s “Beetlejuice.”

Off-Broadway, fall 2026 will see the opening of “The Heart,” a new musical at the Laura Pels Theatre in the Harold & Miriam Steinberg Center for Theatre, directed by Ashley. The musical features a book and additional lyrics by “The Great Gatsby” scribe Kait Kerrigan, plus music and lyrics by Anne and Ian Eisendrath. Ian recently served in the music department of the Academy Award-winning musical film “KPop Demon Hunters.” Choreography will be by Emmy Award nominee Mandy Moore, choreographer for TV’s “So You Think You Can Dance” and “Dancing with the Stars,” the film “La La Land” and Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour.

In winter 2027, Roundabout will produce a new play in association with New York Theatre Workshop: “The Grief Eater Near North Bender,” also at the Pels. Written by Dylan Guerra, a former staff writer on the Max original series “The Other Two,” the play centers on townspeople afflicted by a mysterious creature that erases people’s memories, causing them to forget their loved ones. “Grief Eater” will be directed by Dustin Wills, director of 2023’s “Wet Brain” at Playwrights Horizons, and 2024’s “Six Characters” at the Claire Tow Theater.

Finally, spring 2027 will see a 30th anniversary production of “The Vagina Monologues” at the Laura Pels Theatre. This series of monologues was written by V (formerly Eve Ensler) based on 200 interviews with various women regarding their views on sex, relationships and violence against women, trauma, birth and more. Roundabout’s upcoming production will be directed by Norma Dumezweni, a two-time Olivier Award winner and Tony nominee known for “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.”

Roundabout is also reviving the Roundabout Underground new works residency program in its 2026-2027 season, with a title to be announced.

Dates for the new season will be announced soon.
