Review: ‘My Fair Lady’ is a beautifully polished antique

Impeccable is the first word that springs to mind to describe the Lincoln Center Theater revival of Lerner and Loewe’s “My Fair Lady.” But that’s really no surprise.

Impeccable is the first word that springs to mind to describe the Lincoln Center Theater revival of Lerner and Loewe’s “My Fair Lady.” But that’s really no surprise. The director, Bartlett Sher, has established himself as perhaps the most gifted steward of classic Broadway musicals working today, with his flawless productions of “South Pacific,” “The King and I” and “Fiddler on the Roof.” His work is no less accomplished here: faithful without being reverent, equally attentive to the nuances of character and musical values. With the help of his regular collaborators, the set designer Michael Yeargan and costume designer Catherine Zuber, Sher once again buffs a beloved musical to a dazzling gloss.
