“M. Butterfly” is closing Jan. 14, six weeks earlier than it had planned, the show announced Tuesday.

The revival, starring Clive Owen and Jin Ha, opened on Oct. 26, after beginning previews Oct. 7. The play, directed by Julie Taymor and written by David Henry Hwang, will have played 19 previews and 93 performances when it closes at the Cort Theatre in January.

“M.Butterfly” originally opened on Broadway in March 1988 and played 777 total performances.

The revival received mixed reviews, with Broadway News’ Charles Isherwood saying that the play’s “emotional core seems to have been hollowed out.”

The show captured 40% of its gross potential at the box office last week. It had been struggling at the box office, bringing in its highest gross so far for the week ending Nov. 11, when it brought in 69.9% of its gross potential.
