Broadway’s “Buena Vista Social Club” will hold a special dance-along performance hosted by Academy Award-winning and Tony Award-nominated actor Lupita Nyong’o later this summer. During the performance on Aug. 14, audience members are invited to dance to the show’s musical numbers from their seats.
This will be the third dance-along night for “Buena Vista.” The first such performance, held on March 26, was hosted by Tony Award winner Lin-Manuel Miranda; a second event followed on May 14, hosted by Special Tony Award honoree and “Buena Vista Social Club” co-producer John Leguizamo.
Nyong’o, who won an Academy Award for her role in “12 Years a Slave,” can currently be seen in cinemas worldwide in the Christopher Nolan-helmed adaptation of “The Odyssey.” Her one-night appearance in “Buena Vista Social Club” will mark her first appearance on a Broadway stage in a decade; she made her Broadway debut in Danai Gurira’s “Eclipsed,” for which Nyong’o was nominated for a Tony in 2016.
“Buena Vista Social Club” is inspired by the true story of a Cuban music supergroup and the recording of its self-titled album. Featuring a Tony-nominated book by Marco Ramirez, the musical officially opened at Broadway’s Schoenfeld Theatre on March 19, 2025, receiving five Tonys, including a special award for the musicians that make up its band. The musical is set to open a replica production in Puerto Rico this fall.
“Buena Vista Social Club” is produced on Broadway by Orin Wolf, John Styles, Barbara Broccoli, Atlantic Theater Company, Luis Miranda, LaChanze and John Leguizamo with executive producer Allan Williams.
