Laura Linney sets Broadway return in world premiere of David Auburn’s ‘Summer, 1976’

The world premiere production of “Summer, 1976” will open on Broadway in April 2023, Manhattan Theatre Club announced Tuesday. Written by David Auburn and directed by Daniel Sullivan (collaborators on “Proof” and “The Columnist” with MTC), “Summer, 1976” will star MTC veteran Laura Linney.

The world premiere production of “Summer, 1976” will open on Broadway in April 2023, Manhattan Theatre Club announced Tuesday.

Written by David Auburn and directed by Daniel Sullivan (collaborators on “Proof” and “The Columnist” with MTC), “Summer, 1976” will star MTC veteran Laura Linney. “Summer, 1976” is scheduled to begin previews on April 4, 2023 at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre.

Linney was last seen on Broadway in MTC’s “My Name Is Lucy Barton” in 2020.

A full cast and creative team, as well as official opening night, will be announced at a later date.

Commissioned by MTC through the Bank of America New Play Program, “Summer, 1976” will be produced by MTC under the leadership of artistic director Lynne Meadow and executive producer Barry Grove.

“Summer, 1976” was originally announced for MTC’s City Center Stage II venue.
