The 53rd Daytime Emmy Awards nominations were announced on July 14 by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS), which administers the awards. A smattering of Broadway entities and individuals were named among this year’s crop of nominees, including the American Theatre Wing.

Though dubbed the “Daytime Emmys,” since 2021 the Daytime and Primetime Awards have not been delineated by the time of day during which programming airs but by genre. The Daytime Emmys honor achievement in the television genres of: daytime drama, daytime talk, lifestyle, entertainment news, how-to, arts and popular culture, culinary how-to, culinary cultural, travel/adventure, court/legal and daytime special. The 2026 Daytime Emmys will recognize television released between Jan. 1, 2025, and Dec. 31, 2025. Overall nominees have been named, but all nominees will now undergo a vetting and review process by NATAS administration, which will then release a list of individual nominee names during the week of Aug. 28. For example, a series that is nominated for writing is listed by its title but does not yet include the names of individual writers recognized by this nomination.

Winners of the 2026 Daytime Emmys are scheduled to be announced at the Hollywood Palladium on Oct. 30. According to a representative for the awards, “There is no additional judging between now and when the winners are announced — the nominees and winners are determined in the same round of judging by average scores.”

The American Theatre Wing’s digital series “Working in the Theatre” is nominated for Outstanding Arts and Popular Culture Program. The 2025 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, which included performances from multiple Broadway shows, earned six nominations, including one for Outstanding Daytime Special.

Whoopi Goldberg first made a splash with her self-titled 1984 solo play, which transferred to Broadway and is currently running in a new production as “The Whoopi Monologues” with Lincoln Center Theater. Goldberg went on to perform and produce on Broadway and is Emmy-nominated this year with Joy Behar, Alyssa Farah Griffin, Sara Haines, Sunny Hostin and Ana Navarro for Outstanding Daytime Talk Series Host for “The View.” Also in that category is EGOT winner Jennifer Hudson for her hosting of “The Jennifer Hudson Show.” Hudson made her Broadway debut as Shug Avery in the 2015 revival of “The Color Purple,” though she had technically appeared on a Broadway stage before that in benefit concerts. Hudson won a Tony Award for co-producing the Tony-winning Best Musical “A Strange Loop.” She has since served as a co-producer on “Smash.” In addition to Hudson’s personal nomination for hosting the talk show, “The Jennifer Hudson Show” racked up four additional nominations.

“Solo Traveling with Tracee Ellis Ross” earned a nod for Outstanding Travel and Adventure Program. Ross recently made her Broadway debut on July 7 in “Every Brilliant Thing.” Keke Palmer, though not best known for Broadway, did star in 2013’s “Cinderella” and earned Emmy recognition for Outstanding Daytime Personality - Non-Daily for “Glam Through the Ages.” Finally, Tamara Tunie, a founding member and current board member of Black Theatre United and frequent Broadway co-producer (and a Tony-winning one for “Spring Awakening”), is nominated for Outstanding Lead Performance in a Daytime Drama Series - Actress for her turn in “Beyond the Gates.”

There may be more Broadway talent among the nominees once individual nominations are announced at the end of August.

Emmy nominations 2026: ‘Wicked’ movie special, the 2025 Tony Awards broadcast, Daveed Diggs and more Broadway names rack up nods
