Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande and Stephen Schwartz earn 2026 Golden Globe nominations for ‘Wicked’ — full nominations announced

See what other Broadway talent is up for an award for when the Golden Globes take place in January 2026.

“Wicked: For Good,” the second of the two-part “Wicked” movies, earned five Golden Globe Awards nominations when the 2026 nominees were announced on Dec. 8. The Golden Globes recognize achievement in film, television and podcasting in 28 categories. The 83rd annual ceremony will take place on Jan. 11, 2026, and will be broadcast at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on CBS and Paramount+.

Stephen Schwartz, the Tony Award-nominated composer of Broadway’s “Wicked,” earned two Golden Globe nominations: one for each of “Wicked: For Good,”’s two new songs, “No Place Like Home” and “The Girl in the Bubble.” The film also received a nomination in the category of Cinematic and Box Office Achievement.

Both Cynthia Erivo, who plays Elphaba, and Ariana Grande, who plays Glinda, were nominated for their respective performances. Erivo was nominated for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture — Musical or Comedy (alongside fellow Broadway alum Emma Stone). Grande was nominated for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role in any Motion Picture. Main Stem alumni Amy Madigan, who starred in the 1992 revival of “A Streetcar Named Desire,” and Elle Fanning, a member of the original Broadway cast of “Appropriate,” are nominated in the same category as Grande. 

Oscar Isaac, who starred in the 2023 revival of “The Sign in Sidney Brustein’s Window” (and earned a Tony nomination for producing it), is a Golden Globe nominee for his leading performance in the drama “Frankenstein.” Ethan Hawke, a Tony nominee for “The Coast of Utopia,” and George Clooney, a Tony nominee for his Broadway acting debut last season with “Good Night, and Good Luck,” are both nominated for their leading performances — but in the category assigned to a musical or comedy. Hawke is being recognized for his turn as composer Lorenz Hart in “Blue Moon,” a film chronicling the opening night of “Oklahoma!”; Clooney earned his nod for playing the title role in “Jay Kelly.”

Sean Penn, who appeared on Broadway twice early in his career, is nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in any Motion Picture for his turn in “One Battle After Another.”

The Golden Globes also recognize achievement in television. Tony winner Helen Mirren, Tony nominee Kathy Bates and Main Stem alum Keri Russell will face off in the category of Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Series — Drama.

Ayo Edebiri, who will bow in the 2026 revival of “Proof,” and Jean Smart, who returned to Broadway this past summer in “Call Me Izzy,” are both nominated for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Series — Musical or Comedy.

Tony winner Mark Ruffalo, who last appeared on Broadway in “The Price,” garnered a nod for Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Television Series — Drama for “Task,” while Tony nominee Steve Martin and Tony winner Martin Short both earned recognition for Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy for “Only Murders in the Building.” 

When it comes to limited series, anthology series and movies made for TV, Tony nominee Michelle Williams and Tony winner Sarah Snook were both nominated for their leading performances in “Dying for Sex” and “All Her Fault,” respectively. Carrie Coon, a Tony nominee about to return to the Main Stem in “Bug,” was recognized for her supporting turn in “The White Lotus.”

Tony winner Billy Crudup and Tramell Tillman were both nominated in the category of Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role on Television, for “The Morning Show” and “Severance,” respectively.

Finally, “Smartless,” a podcast hosted by Tony winner Sean Hayes as well as Will Arnett and Jason Bateman, was nominated for Best Podcast.
