Concord Theatricals has announced its acquisition of the exclusive North American English-language stage licensing rights to Mark Rosenblatt’s “Giant.” The show will be made available for licensing to professional and amateur theater companies throughout North America at a later date.
Set in the 1980s, “Giant” follows renowned children’s author Roald Dahl as he is preparing to publish his latest novel, “The Witches.” When he publishes a review of another book that includes antisemitic comments, Dahl’s U.K. and U.S. publishers try to convince him to apologize publicly.
“It’s so exciting to imagine new creative teams working on brand new productions of ‘Giant,’” said playwright Rosenblatt in a statement. “I couldn’t be happier that Concord Theatricals’ expertise, reach and know-how will make that possible, allowing wider audiences to deep dive into this perilous, provocative afternoon in the home of a world-famous children’s author.”
“Giant” is Rosenblatt’s debut play. Following its 2024 premiere at London’s Royal Court Theatre’s Jerwood Theatre Downstairs, it transferred to the Harold Pinter Theatre in the West End the following year. On March 23, 2026, “Giant” opened at Broadway’s Music Box Theatre. It was nominated for four Tony Awards, including Best Play, with John Lithgow winning best leading actor for his portrayal of Dahl.
Concord Theatricals is the theatrical arm of BMG, offering theatrical licensing, music and script publishing, cast recording and producing services to theatermakers globally. The licensor’s other recent acquisitions include the musical adaptation of “Almost Famous” and the Tony-winning Best Play “Stereophonic.”
