“Caroline, or Change” will begin performances Oct. 8, after a postponement due to the Broadway shutdown.

The revival, which was originally scheduled to begin previews last spring, will return to Studio 54 with lead Sharon D. Clarke, Roundabout Theatre Company announced Monday. Opening night is scheduled for Oct. 27.

The Broadway premiere of Alice Childress’s “Trouble in Mind” is now scheduled to begin previews at the American Airlines Theatre Oct. 29, with an opening night Nov. 18

Tickets for both engagements will go on sale July 28. Subscriptions to Roundabout are already on sale.

Noah Haidle’s “Birthday Candles,” starring Debra Messing, will now begin previews at the American Airlines Theatre on March 18, 2022, with an opening night April 10. The play was originally scheduled to begin previews April 2, 2020.

A gender-inclusive revival of “1776,” directed by Diane Paulus and Jeffrey L. Page, will play the American Airlines Theatre in fall 2022.

Roundabout Theatre Company is one of the first major players to put forth an anti-racism plan upon reopening. The plan includes a five-year strategic plan proposed by 29 staff members, which includes a “rebuild” of the organization’s artistic programming, organizational structure and its board of directors.

In Dec. 2020, the company announced the appointment of director Kenny Leon as its senior resident director, with a task of working with the organization on its anti-racism and equity goals. Roundabout also recently announced the Refocus Project, aimed at diversifying the theatrical canon.

Health and safety protocols for audiences remain to be seen. However, all Roundabout theaters will install MERV 14 filters or higher and employ “rigorous cleaning and sanitation.”

Off-Broadway Roundabout will present Mansa Ra’s “…what the end will be,” directed Margot Bordelon, at the Laura Pels Theatre, with an opening in April 2022; Dave Harris’s “Exception to the Rule,” directed by Miranda Haymon, in the Black Box Theatre in April 2022 and Anna Ziegler’s “The Wanderers,” directed by Barry Edelstein, in July 2022.
