“Stranger Things: The First Shadow” is making the leap from the stage to the page. Dark Horse Books has announced that it will release an 80-page graphic novel adaptation of the Broadway thriller on Jan. 19, 2027.

Written by Rachel Pinnelas, the book will be an adaptation of the original stage play, which is a prequel to the Netflix series “Stranger Things.” The story begins as the Creel family seeks a fresh start in Hawkins, Indiana. After finding friendship and joining the school play, teenage Henry Creel must confront his potential connection to a wave of shocking crimes striking the town.

The stage version of “Stranger Things: The First Shadow,” which marks Netflix’s first foray into live theater, is currently running at the Marquis Theatre on Broadway. The Main Stem staging began previews on March 28, 2025, opened on April 22, 2025 and is scheduled to close on Jan. 3, 2027.
Written by Kate Trefry and based on an original story by the Duffer Brothers, Jack Thorne and Trefry, Broadway’s “Stranger Things: The First Shadow” was the most honored play at the 2025 Tony Awards, taking home trophies for Best Scenic Design of a Play, Best Lighting Design of a Play, Best Sound Design of a Play and a Special Tony Award for Illusions and Technical Effects. The play’s London production received Olivier Awards for Best Entertainment and Best Set Design.
The play was also recently filmed for an upcoming release on Netflix.
