Composer Andrew Lloyd Webber will miss the March 23 opening night of his new Broadway musical, “Bad Cinderella,” due to a family emergency. In a statement, Lloyd Webber shared that his son Nick is critically ill.

“As my friends and family know, he has been fighting gastric cancer for the last 18 months, and Nick is now hospitalized,” Lloyd Webber said in the statement. “We are all praying that Nick will turn the corner. He is bravely fighting with his indomitable humor, but at the moment my place is with him and the family.”

Lloyd Webber has not been able to attend recent previews for the new musical, which began at the Imperial Theatre on Feb. 17.

Directed by Laurence Connor, “Bad Cinderella” features a book by Emerald Fennell, music by Lloyd Webber and lyrics by David Zippel.

“Bad Cinderella” is being produced on Broadway by No Guarantees and Really Useful Group. Wagner Johnson Productions is executive producer.
