Christopher Gattelli was first recruited to “Schmigadoon!” in its incarnation as a television series. Creator Cinco Paul asked Gattelli to choreograph for the Apple TV+ show. Now, Gattelli is the director-choreographer of the stage version of the musical.

Gattelli was most recently nominated for his direction and choreography of “Death Becomes Her.” Here, the artist defines the role of a director-choreographer, speaks to the different dance styles in the show and creating the full world of “Schmigadoon!”

“Schmigadoon!” is nominated for 12 Tony Awards.

The 2026 Tony Awards will take place on June 7 at Radio City Music Hall. P!NK will host the ceremony, which will be broadcast live on CBS and livestreamed on Paramount+ Premium (8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT). CBS and Pluto TV will present the Tony Awards: Act One, with additional details to follow.
