“What the Constitution Means to Me” will head to Washington, D.C. following its Broadway run.
The play, starring and written by Heidi Schreck, will conclude its Broadway run on Aug. 24, 2019 and then play the Kennedy Center from Sept. 11 to Sept. 22. All of the original cast members, including Schreck, will resume their roles for the run at the Kennedy Center.
“I’m honored to have the opportunity to perform this deeply personal story about our founding document just blocks from where the original Constitution is displayed, and where the leaders who are charged with upholding it live and work,” Schreck said in the press release.
This production is separate from the national tour, which is scheduled to begin in January with a different star at its helm.
Schreck’s play, directed by Oliver Butler, opened on Broadway on March 31, after previous runs at New York Theatre Workshop, at Berkeley Repertory Theater and with Clubbed Thumb.
“What the Constitution Means to Me asks us to examine our own relationship with that foundational document in such a resonant way that I knew this important play had to come to Washington, D.C. I am absolutely thrilled that the Broadway run will be extended exclusively here at the Kennedy Center this fall,” said Jeffrey Finn, vice president of theater producing and programming, in the press release.
