Before the hardware is handed out on June 7, the 2026, the Tony Awards are shining a light on the brilliant minds working behind the scenes. This year’s recipients of the Tony Honor for Excellence in the Theatre include master designer and creative director Kenn Lubin. In a newly released acceptance video, Lubin reflects on a prolific four-decade career spent crafting the first impression theatergoers have of a show. Watch Lubin’s full acceptance speech below.

Lubin originally cut his teeth in film and television graphics before transitioning to Broadway advertising as an influential creative force at advertising firm Serino Coyne, later continuing his career as an independent designer and fabricator. Over 40 years, Lubin’s vision has defined the look of Times Square, generating the iconic artwork, marquee displays and massive theater wraps for more than 2,000 Broadway and Off-Broadway productions.

Tune in for the rest of the festivities during the Tonys broadcast on June 7.
