“The Prom” announced a closing date of Aug. 11.

At that point, the musical will have played 23 preview and 310 regular performances. The closing notice comes after the show had a season of middling grosses and did not take home any Tony Awards this month, after receiving seven nominations.

The show has been consistently running at 50% to 60% of its gross potential, with larger dips in the winter months. It reached its highest gross, of $936,581, in the holiday week ended on Dec. 30, 2018. In the most recent gross report, for the week ended June 16, the musical brought in $638,365, or 61% of its gross potential.

The musical opened at the Longacre Theatre on Nov. 15, 2018.

“The Prom” was initially capitalized for up to $13.5 million, according to documents filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

“It has been an honor and a privilege to bring this original musical comedy, full of heart and humor, to Broadway with this dream cast and creative team,” said producers Bill Damaschke, Dori Berinstein and Jack Lane in the press release.

This is the latest in a series of Broadway closing announcements following the Tony Awards. It was preceded by “Gary” and “Hillary and Clinton,” with “King Lear” closing on the day of the Tony Awards.

After the Broadway closing, the musical has announced plans for a national tour beginning in February 2021 and plans to license the show. It also has a Netflix adaptation and young adult novel as adaptation in the works.
