‘The Outsiders’ musical to receive original cast album

Sony Masterworks Broadway will produce the cast recording featuring the original score of Jamestown Revival and Justin Levine.

An original cast album will be recorded for the new musical “The Outsiders.” Sony Masterworks Broadway will produce the recording, scheduled to be released digitally on May 22 and on CD on June 28. Preordering is now available.

The “Outsiders” cast recording will feature the original music and lyrics co-written by Jamestown Revival (Jonathan Clay and Zach Chance) and Justin Levine. Danya Taymor directs the musical, which began previews on March 16 and will officially open on April 11 at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre.

Also newly announced is the release of the musical’s third single, “Soda’s Letter,” sung by Jason Schmidt with Brent Comer and Brody Grant.

Featuring a book co-written by Levine and Adam Rapp, based on the novel by S.E. Hinton and the film by Francis Ford Coppola, “The Outsiders” is set in 1967 Oklahoma, as misfits Ponyboy Curtis, Johnny Cade and their chosen family fight to survive in a world that wasn’t built for them.

The musical’s cast is led by Grant as Ponyboy Curtis and Sky Lakota-Lynch as Johnny Cade, with Schmidt, Comer, Joshua Boone, Emma Pittman, Daryl Tofa, Dan Berry, Kevin William Paul, Jordan Chin, Milena J. Comeau, Barton Cowperthwaite, Tilly Evans-Krueger, Henry Gendron, RJ Higton, Wonza Johnson, Sean Harrison Jones, Maggie Kuntz, Renni Anthony Magee, SarahGrace Mariani, Melody Rose, Josh Strobl, Victor Carrillo Tracey and Trevor Wayne.

“The Outsiders” is produced by the Araca Group, American Zoetrope, Olympus Theatricals, Sue Gilad & Larry Rogowsky and Angelina Jolie.
