The Muny, officially known as the Municipal Theatre Association of St. Louis, will receive the 2025 Regional Theatre Tony Award, the Tony Awards Administration Committee announced on May 7.
The honor, presented annually in recognition of a regional theater company that demonstrates continuous artistic achievement and contributes to the growth of theatre nationwide, includes a $25,000 grant supported by City National Bank.
The Muny, now in its 107th season, is the oldest and largest outdoor musical theater in the United States. Located in St. Louis’s Forest Park, the nonprofit institution presents seven productions each summer and welcomes more than 300,000 patrons annually. The theater also provides over 100,000 free tickets per season and offers programs that support the development of emerging theater professionals.
The theater’s upcoming season will include productions of “Bring It On,” “Come From Away,” Disney’s “Frozen,” “Evita,” “Dear Evan Hansen,” “La Cage Aux Folles” and “Jersey Boys.”
“For over a century, the Muny has been a cultural cornerstone of St. Louis, producing first-class musicals in a setting unlike any other,” said Jason Laks, president of the Broadway League, and Heather Hitchens, president and CEO of the American Theatre Wing, in a joint statement. “The Muny exemplifies the spirit of this award.”
The award recipient was selected based on a recommendation from the American Theatre Critics Association.
The 78th Annual Tony Awards will be held on June 8, 2025, at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. The ceremony will be hosted by Tony, Emmy and Grammy Award winner and Oscar nominee Cynthia Erivo and will air live on CBS from 8 to 11 p.m. ET, with livestreaming available on Paramount+ for subscribers with Paramount+ with Showtime.
The Tony Awards are presented by the American Theatre Wing and The Broadway League. Executive producers for the telecast are Ricky Kirshner and Glenn Weiss of White Cherry Entertainment, with Weiss also directing.
