The Broadway-bound musical “Wanted” received workshop presentations on June 26 at Manhattan’s New 42 Studios. As previously reported, “Wanted” will bow on Broadway in 2026.
Solea Pfeiffer and Liisi LaFontaine led the cast of the presentations as siblings Mary and Martha Clarke, respectively. The duo appeared alongside Tony Award nominees Will Swenson as Jesse and Jeannette Bayardelle as Tallulah, in addition to Luke James as Elijah, Jennie Harney-Fleming as Flo and Aurelia Williams as Sissy. Rounding out the company of the workshop were Reed Campbell, Aaron Harrington, Timothy Hughes, Mary Claire King, Rayshun LaMarr, Tiffany Mann, MiMi Scardulla, Brad Sharp, Danielle Summons, Hailey Thomas, Katie Thompson, Harris Matthew Turner and Jisel Soleil Ayon.
“Wanted” tells the true story of a pair of Black twin sisters who passed as white in 1893 Texas, becoming outlaws and, eventually, legends in their own right. Featuring a book and lyrics by Angelica Chéri (a real-life descendant of the sisters Clarke) and music by Ross Baum, “Wanted” is directed by Tony nominee Stevie Walker-Webb. Chelsey Arce serves as choreographer and Cody Renard Richard is production stage manager. Alejandro Senior served as music director for the workshop, while Austin Cook will take on those duties for the Broadway run. Casting for the Broadway production will be by Tara Rubin and Olivia Paige West of the TRC Company.
The production has also released its first single ahead of its impending Main Stem premiere. The song “Gun and Powder,” from the forthcoming album “Wanted: The Studio EP,” features vocal performances by Pfeiffer and LaFontaine and is now available on Spotify and Apple.
“Wanted” was known as “Gun and Powder” in previous iterations, including for a January 2020 world premiere at Virginia’s Signature Theatre and a subsequent production at New Jersey’s Paper Mill Playhouse in April 2024.
“Wanted” is being produced by P3 Productions (Ben Holtzman, Sammy Lopez and Fiona Rudin) and TRATE Productions (Robyn Coles and Evan Coles).
