Second Stage has canceled the May 29 2:00 p.m. matinée of “Mother Play.”  According to a post on the show’s Instagram account, there is an illness within the company. The 7:00 p.m. performance is expected to proceed as planned.

Ticket holders for the matinée performance are instructed to contact their point of purchase for next steps.

Written by Paula Vogel and directed by Tina Landau, “Mother Play” began previews at the Hayes Theater on April 3 and opened on April 25 for a limited run through June 16. The production is currently nominated for the 2024 Best Play Tony Award. The show’s trio of stars—Jessica Lange, Jim Parsons and Celia Keenan-Bolger—all received nods as well.

“Mother Play” is produced by Second Stage Theater under the leadership of president and artistic director Carole Rothman and interim executive director Lisa Lawer Post.
