Producers James Steel and Bryan McCaffrey launch global production and general management company

The firm, Kirk and Granite, will work with productions across U.K. and U.S. theater industries.

London-based producer James Steel has joined with New York-based producer Bryan McCaffrey to start Kirk and Granite, a new international theater production and general management company. Drawing on Steel and McCaffrey’s collective experience in the U.S. and U.K., the company will develop and produce new work, collaborate with other producers and provide general management services for productions.

Kirk and Granite says it aims to build a stronger creative and commercial relationship between the U.S. and U.K. theater industries, including Broadway, Off-Broadway, the West End, Off-West End and the Edinburgh theater scene. The company will work to develop new musicals and plays, in addition to revivals and shows transferring between markets, supporting productions from their earliest phases of development through full theatrical runs.

“Partnering with Bryan is an exciting next step,” said Steel in a statement. “Building on our work with U.S. productions, we want to help productions move between New York and London and create clearer routes for the booming theater industry in Korea and Japan to reach Western audiences. Our combined U.K. and U.S. experience will help us build lasting partnerships across these markets.”

“We’re seeing growing interest from U.S. producers in developing and staging work in the U.K.,” said McCaffrey. “James and I have spent a lot of time working through the differences between the two industries and finding practical ways to make that process easier.”

Steel is a London-based producer and general manager whose producing credits include “Hit Machine,” “Fly More Than You Fall” and “Ushers.” On Broadway, McCaffrey co-produced the Tony Award-nominated “John Proctor is the Villain” and Tony-winning “Cats: The Jellicle Ball.” He currently serves as a co-producer of the Broadway and U.S. touring productions of “Operation Mincemeat” in addition to the upcoming Broadway mounting of “Here There Are Blueberries” under the BPM Theatrical banner, which he also founded.
