“Kimberly Akimbo” has set a final Broadway performance date of April 28. The musical began previews on Oct. 12, 2022, and officially opened on Nov. 10 at the Booth Theatre. By closing, “Kimberly Akimbo” will have played 32 previews and 612 regular performances.

Also newly announced is that the musical will play a 75-week, 60-city national tour. The road production is slated to launch at the Denver Center for Performing Arts in September 2024.

Based on David Lindsay-Abaire’s 2003 play of the same name, “Kimberly Akimbo” follows Kimberly, who is about to turn 16 and recently moved with her family to a new town in suburban New Jersey. Kim is forced to navigate family dysfunction and a rare genetic condition, which causes her to age at a rate four times faster than normal. The musical features a book and lyrics by Lindsay-Abaire and music by Jeanine Tesori. The production is directed by Jessica Stone, choreographed by Danny Mefford and music-directed by Chris Fenwick.

The musical’s entire original company, which has been performing together since its 2021 world premiere with Off-Broadway’s Atlantic Theater Company, will continue with the Broadway production through its final performance. That includes Victoria Clark as Kimberly, Justin Cooley as Seth, Steven Boyer as Buddy, Alli Mauzey as Pattie and Bonnie Milligan as Debra, with Olivia Elease Hardy, Fernell Hogan, Michael Iskander and Nina White. Production standbys are Colleen Fitzpatrick, Jim Hogan and Betsy Morgan, with understudies Skye Alyssa Friedman, Miguel Gil and Alex Vinh. Casting for the production is by the Telsey Office and Craig Burns.

“Kimberly Akimbo” features scenic design by David Zinn, costume design by Sarah Laux, lighting design by Jeanette Oi-Suk Yew, sound design by Kai Harada, projection design by Lucy Mackinnon, wig/hair and makeup design by J. Jared Janas, orchestrations by John Clancy, additional orchestrations by Macy Schmidt and production stage management by Arabella Powell.

The musical was nominated for eight 2023 Tony Awards, winning five: for Clark’s and Milligan’s performances, Lindsay-Abaire’s book, his and Tesori’s score and the top prize of Best Musical. Also nominated were Stone for her direction, Cooley for his performance and Clancy for his orchestrations.

“Kimberly Akimbo” is produced by David Stone, the Atlantic Theater Company, James L. Nederlander, LaChanze, John Gore, Patrick Catullo and Aaron Glick.
