The Grammy Museum has announced a new exhibit. “& Juliet: The Music of Max Martin” will honor songwriter and producer Martin and explore how his catalog of pop hits were reimagined to populate the score of Broadway’s “& Juliet.” The exhibit will open at the Los Angeles-based museum on July 23 and will run through Oct. 27.

The timing of the exhibit coincides with the Los Angeles engagement of “& Juliet”’s national tour. The “& Juliet” road company will appear at the Ahmanson Theatre from Aug. 13 through Sept. 7.

The exhibit will include a variety of items from the artists with which Martin has collaborated, such as two different outfits from Britney Spears’ 1999 “Baby One More Time” tour and her 2001-2002 “Dream Within a Dream” tour, as well as paraphernalia from “& Juliet,” such as signed sheet music, props and a jacket worn by the character of Romeo, among other costume pieces.

“I’m so thrilled that the Grammy Museum is highlighting ‘& Juliet,’” Martin said in a statement. “Working on ‘& Juliet’ has truly been a highlight of my career, and I’m so glad Los Angeles residents will have a chance to check out the show that has brought so much joy to so many people, and at the same time visit the Grammy Museum to learn more about the songs and artifacts that inspired the score.”

“‘& Juliet is a clever, hilarious and empowering jukebox musical that gives new context to an impressive playlist of timeless Max Martin tracks,” added Grammy Museum curator Kelsey Goelz. “I hope our Grammy Museum visitors will walk away with a new appreciation for Martin's pop music legacy and a better understanding of all the hard work that goes into creating a Broadway production.”

Featuring a Tony Award-nominated book by David West Read, “& Juliet” reimagines Shakespeare’s classic tragedy where the titular heroine survives and embarks on a journey of self empowerment. The Luke Sheppard-helmed production opened on Nov. 17, 2022 at the Broadway’s Stephen Sondheim Theatre and was nominated for nine Tony Awards.

“& Juliet” is produced by Martin, Tim Headington, Theresa Steele Page, Jenny Petersson, Martin Dodd and Eva Price.
