How Harvey Fierstein inadvertently helped the writers of ‘The Lost Boys’ find their story

In the latest podcast episode, Chris Hoch, David Hornsby and more reveal the makings of the new musical.

Chris Hoch and David Hornsby are first-time musical theater book writers — but that’s not to say they’re inexperienced. Hornsby is an executive producer and writer of the long-running series “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” (on which he also stars as Rickety Cricket) as well as of “Mythic Quest” (on which he stars as David Brittlesbee). Hoch made his Broadway debut as an actor, starting as a replacement for Gaston in “Beauty and the Beast.” Among his nine previous Main Stem credits two are crucial to his latest gig: “Dracula, the Musical” and “La Cage aux Folles.”

Hoch and Hornsby are the writers of the new musical adaptation of the 1987 film “The Lost Boys.” Like “Dracula,” it’s a vampire story. But unlike “Dracula,” Hoch hopes to win over the public and run for a long time. To those skeptical of a vampire musical, Hoch says: “I understand your fear. It keeps me up at night.”
