The Broadway production of “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” has been nominated for a 2026 Webby Award. The 30th annual ceremony will take place on May 11 at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City. As previously reported, the American Theatre Wing also received a nod. “Cursed Child” is the sole Broadway show to earn a Webby nomination; it has been named in the category of Best Growth Strategy: Advertising, Media and PR for the Tom Felton Casting Campaign.
Led by advertising and marketing agency AKA NYC, press firm Boneau Bryan-Brown and content creation company Industria Studios, the June 2025 advertising campaign promoted the Broadway debut of Tom Felton, who originated the role of Draco Malfoy in the “Harry Potter” film series, and began his run with “Cursed Child” as Draco on Nov. 11, 2025. The “Harry Potter” play is nominated in that category alongside campaigns for TV series “Abbott Elementary,” the 30th anniversary of Coolio’s song “Gangsta’s Paradise,” beer brand Miller Lite and political action committee Americans for Prosperity.
The Felton campaign could also win a Webby People’s Voice Award in the same category. Out of the nominees, one winner will be selected for the Webby Award in that specific category, and the online community will also select one winner for what’s called the Webby People’s Voice Award. People’s Voice Awards are open to voting from the general public worldwide until April 16.
The same “Cursed Child” campaign has also been named an honoree in the category of Best Use of Earned Media: Advertising, Media and PR. The Webbys judging panel selects certain entrants in competitive categories as honorees, indicating that, while they have not been chosen as nominees and are not eligible to win, they are still notable in their achievement.
Presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences, the Webbys have recognized excellence on the internet annually since 1996, with awards distributed to websites, social media pages, advertising campaigns and online video creators. The winners are decided by a judging panel of 2,000 industry professionals.
The American Theatre Wing was also nominated for a 2026 Webby in the category of Interview, Talk and After-Show, Series and Channels (Video and Film) for its web series “2025 Tony Awards - First Impressions Cam,” in which Tony winners are interviewed immediately after accepting their awards. The 2024 edition of “First Impressions Cam” was also recognized as a Webbys nominee.
Felton currently appears as Draco in “Cursed Child” on Broadway at the Lyric Theatre, having set a departure date of Nov. 1. Webby winners will be announced online on April 21 ahead of the May 11 ceremony, hosted by comedian and “The Daily Show” correspondent Josh Johnson.
